Our Essence

GENERATIONS

Ottavio was born in a little Sicilian village nearly 80 years ago and was the inspiration behind Nira Montana and the Le Jardin des Alpes residential development. At the age of, 25 he moved to Asia where he spent the next 40 years of his life building an incredible legacy. Upon his return to Italy, Ottavio went in search of a location in the Alps to build a hospitality business, and found it right here, in the shadow of Mont Blanc. Unfortunately Ottavio did not live to see the opening of Nira Montana which was completed by his children who put all their love for him into every detail Ottavio, as a perfectionist, would have been proud of.

Today at Nira Montana, we strive everyday to give special importance to the values and things that our founder cherished during his life: a smile above everything else, aesthetic perfection, and making you feel welcome.

DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE

Nira Montana brings together the best of contemporary design, innovative materials, all within the shell of a traditional Aosta Valley exterior.

Studio del Portico creativity gave Nira Montana a warm and nature centric ambience: in the rooms, tree themed wallpaper, a wavy tree trunk parquet and decorative ornamental deer heads create a sensation of being in an alpine forest. In the common areas, the use of wood, stone and steel bring out a cool coziness.

GASTRONOMY

Our food, just like the hotel, is authentic, wholesome and unpretentious with a regional flavour.

Our chef Paolo, a local from the Aosta Valley, will share his many culinary secrets, let you discover the unknown dishes and ingredients from the local uncontaminated environment. Fresh organic eggs, local honeys and jams to start your day. Expect the generous use of alpine herbs, berries and flowers sprinkled on your dishes together with a variety of organic olive oils from the rest of Italy.

Architects based in Milan, are the inspiring couple behind Nira Montana's award winning interiors. Combining a traditional building exterior invoking tradition and history, with the latest materials in design interiors, the Milan-based couple found a perfect balance between old and new by instilling a sense of contemporary wonder that fits harmoniously with its surroundings, all while radiating warmth and welcome. Of particular note, the double-height restaurant contrasts wooden paneling with custom-designed steel furniture, and the SPA, from which the wonders of nature can be viewed.

  • "The guiding principle of our work at Nira Montana was to bring together warmth, design, luxurious informality, all in within the envelope of authenticity, reflective of the very essence of an Alpine village like La Thuile"

  • "Unlike classical alpine hotels or residences, wood no longer plays the traditional sole starring role, but alongside it stand paints, wallpapers, iron and weathering steel, which contribute to a complex combination where the diversity of materials leads to an overall balance."
